The industry was born, thanks to his innovative methods and use of technology in setting up Desh Garments Ltd. Today, the RMG sector garners 84% of the total export income of the country all because of Desh Garments’ relentless efforts, making them pioneers in the trade.

A proud Bangladeshi patriot, Mr Quader was born in Tongibari, Bikrampur in 1935. He had paved his career path with the Air Force. However, his time there was short-lived after he had encountered an accident that took a harsh toll on him. His affinity for adventure was translated in his headstrong spirit and hunger for sky-high accomplishments. Shortly after 1954, Mr Quader enrolled at the University of Dhaka, where he pursued his education in Economics.

A Patriot’s Roots

Mr Quader’s love for his country was unsurmountable: he took part in the Language Movement at the age of 17 and became a freedom fighter. He was not just the first secretary of the establishment of the Mujibnagar Government but also the first secretary of liberated Bangladesh.

Career Blueprint

Amongst the many important roles he played in his lifetime, Mr Quader was appointed the first president of the official tourism organization of the country, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation. He was also the secretary of the Bangladesh Government where he headed several ministries, including the Division of Government Affairs, Communications, Railways, Shipping, Waterways, Airways, and others.

Desh Group began its journey back in 1974 under which Desh Garments Ltd. was formed jointly with Daewoo of South Korea in 1978. Mr Quader, in hopes to build a strong technical and marketing team, sent 130 men and women to Daewoo’s factory. They then returned to build the foundation of Desh Garments.

Mr Quader laid out the blueprint for the efficient use of back-to-back letters of the credit system that resolved the financial issues in the entire RMG sector. He also initiated the bonded warehousing system that helped industries survive better. He always kept the employees’ interests at the heart of every decision, allowing each employee to have the scope to grow with the organization.
