Social Contribution

We at Desh Group of Companies believe that when people are given a chance, they take a step closer to achieving their dreams.

Sometimes, a lack of opportunity can be the most formidable barrier to success. Desh Group of Companies is helping to create opportunities for people of all ages in Bangladesh. By giving back to our community, we are watering the seeds of potential within these dynamic individuals.

The company is a keen investor in education and art through the Muslim Girls High School of Mymensingh and M. Noorul Quader Foundation.

Desh Group’s founder, Mr M. Noorul Quader, was a passionate and appreciative supporter of the arts.

Quamrul Hassan and S. M. Sultan, renowned master painters of Bangladesh, were some of his friends for whom he had even organized exhibitions.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Mr Quader commissioned several budding artists of Bangladesh to promote their careers to a wider audience.

To honor Mr Quader’s enthusiasm for cultivating Bengali art and culture, Desh Group of Companies established the M. Noorul Quader Foundation in 2000.

Each year the foundation sponsors and hosts two creative competitions annually:

  • An art competition for Bangladeshi students aged 3–15
  • A book competition open to Bangladeshi authors of children’s literature

Art Competition

Selected students have to travel to a venue in Dhaka and create a piece of artwork based on an assigned subject within a limited time.

The paintings are judged by esteemed Bangladeshi artists. Winners are announced and prizes are awarded at a later ceremony.

Besides awarding first, second and third prizes, the foundation committee awards several “Encouragement Prizes” to further inspire students, many of whom are underprivileged, to keep developing their skills.

Book Competition

Each year, the foundation calls for book submissions from Bangladeshi writers and publishers.

The submitted books are subsequently judged by a group of prominent Bangladeshi children’s book authors. These submissions are awarded prizes in the categories of Rhyme/Poetry, Novel, and Liberation War.

Prize-winning writers receive generous cash awards along with crests and certificates.

Muslim Girls High School is located in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, about 120 km north of Dhaka. The high school was established in 1911 by the late Alimuddin Khan, grandfather of Mr. Quader.

In 2001, Desh Group of Companies met the growing need for student accommodation at the school by funding the building of on-campus housing for students.

Today, the student hostel, M. Noorul Quader Satri Nibas, is home to 125 students during the academic year.

Mrs Rokeya Quader, current chair of Desh Group of Companies, serves proudly as a member of the high school’s governing body.
